This unique dying process allows the creation of the clear bright and individual colours, for which Baby-Mo and Shangora is so well known. Short warps are then prepared - just twelve blankets will be made from each dye batch - before being put on hand looms where expert weavers put the weft across and painstakingly build up the design of each blanket before it is removed from the loom. Each piece is then inspected before being washed to remove any surplus dye and set the weave before being naturally dried in the South African sun ready to start the long hand finishing process. The hand finishing process entails the blanket first being raised with steel brushes to break the loop and give the special "fluffy" appearance that is Baby-Mo before a decorative fringe is created by hand (the effect can not be reproduced by machine), and trimmed to a uniform length. The blanket is then thoroughly inspected to ensure the Baby-Mo standard of quality has been achieved before the labels are hand stitched and the blanket is folded (or rolled if its going a long way) ready for dispatch. Each Baby-Mo blanket takes an average of eight days to create using this meticulous process which has resulted in Baby-Mo and Shangora products establishing themselves as a sought after premium article valued around the world. The weavers that manufacture our Premier Selection also accept commissions to manufacture unique customised mohair tapestries for both domestic and commercial use of any size including architectural commissions. Unlike our Standard Selection, which are machine made, the quantity and style of the hand woven Baby-Mo and Shangora products in stock at any one time varies.
